He claimed that a Western expedition team had initially been caught cleaning up the site and blamed the explosion on the previous wizards. I advised he put in a request with Tatara if he wanted our input, but it sounds like he didn't include the information about any Western activity.

[He shrugs.] Unfortunately I don't know if that was only a rumor or if it was omitted for political reasons. Nothing else was left out of the official report.

...I met the only survivor of the explosion. They were definitely up to something - he mentioned they were on an expedition of some kind, researching "hidden labs."

He was part of the Western Magitech Army, to boot.

Ah. So it wasn't simply rumor after all. [Syrlya rests his hand to his chin, considering.] But what would they be researching all the way in Eastern territory? You saw the crater, right? It has the same awful energy the moon fragment in the vault did, so I suspect another one is at the center of that explosion.

I wonder if someone collected pieces of the moon and was experimenting on it in the hidden labs, only for it to go wrong... If the previous wizards responded, maybe they got caught up in whatever happened, and that's how they ended up disappearing.

I don't think the experiment itself is directly responsible for any disappearances. The timing is far too close with every wizard in every other country disappearing.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they were toying with something they should not have. [He purses his lips with a frown.] I wonder if these hidden labs had any association with the Western country before, or if they were acting on their own intelligence to activity occurring in the East.

I'd assume it was the latter, but there's no way to know for sure without getting more info on both the countries...

Right. The City of Rain would be a good place to start for history and relations through their officials for the East, but the West... well, I suppose there's books and word on the street.

I haven't been able to get any good gossip listening around Central, but I guess I can try again.

It could be best to do so around West Country, wouldn't it? That would be quite a trip, but we do have that portal we took to the east. Perhaps it can connect to each country.

Oh, yeah, it does. You didn't know?

I hadn't had cause to use it until then. [He shrugs.] So I didn't ask.

I guess that's Central privilege for you... I've been checking out the Northern country to prepare for our mission, whenever they decide send us.

[It's actually because he has a much more difficult time getting around in public unless he wants to be constantly calming people down.

But he simply nods.] That's a good idea. The more prepared you all are, the better. Have you seen anything of interest?

Not really "seen," but I do know I need to be able to cast a spell to keep myself warm up there.

[chronosynthesis]

Oh, that's good to know. [Syrlya may be less susceptible to frostbite but he really doesn't like the cold.] I wonder--well, the way magic is here it should be possible to enchant something to remain warm, such as a cloak.

If I do that I end up overheating, so I've been working on a ward that just keeps out the chill in general.

Oh, is that a concern? [Maybe he runs warm?] A ward is an interesting idea. Have you had much success?

[dyingtohealyou]

[He maybe might have put a little too much power into the heating part. Don't worry about it.]

I don't freeze whenever I travel there anymore, at least.
