It is somewhat more confined, but considering how comparatively weak I am, probably necessary. I can't very well conduct myself with full independence if I don't have the strength to do it.

But when you get stronger, you could probably take on requests on your own and stuff, right? Would that be more like home?

Not without Brighid. But there is no overcoming her absence, so I will simply have to deal with it.

Who's Brighid?

My Blade. My partner. The Jewel of Mor Ardain, and one of the strongest fire Blades in recorded history.

[ Every day, Mòrag continues to impress him. ]

Brighid's a sword?!

[ He leans forward in his seat, almost spilling his tea in the process. His eyes glimmer in awe. ]

You named your sword? That's so cool! Does it really catch fire?!

[Mòrag takes a breath, shuts her eyes, and composes herself for just one moment.]

Where I am from, 'Blades' are lifeforms that exist in a core crystal. When a Driver, that being someone capable of resonating with a Blade in that crystal, does so, the Blade incarnates and takes form, then is bound to the Driver until their death, at which time the Blade returns to their crystal and loses their memories.

Brighid's core crystal is a treasure and relic of Mor Ardain. Traditionally she is given to the Emperor, but the circumstances of the latest succession were unusual. Therefore, she is my Blade and I am her Driver.

[ forgive him, he didn't make it to high school—

But Tatara listens intently and quietly—any opportunity to learn more about his wizards is a good one. ]

Ohhh, so that's why she's a woman...

[ Hmm, hmm. ]

Does that mean she's alive, then? Do you talk to one another? If you're bound to one another for life, does that make you best friends?

[ This has all unusually piqued his interest. There's an earnestness to his gaze. He wants to know... ]

Entirely alive. Were she here, you might perhaps not even recognize her as anything other than human. [The hair and seemingly crystal limbs would be a giveaway, but Mòrag doesn't even register those any more.] We have a close bond, as most Drivers and Blades do.

Whoa...

[ Tatara just stares at the empty space next to Mòrag for a hot moment, trying to picture what Brighid might look like. ]

So if she looks human...then how do you wield her? Do you swing her around by her legs? Or like...command her to do things? [ Like a Pokemon? ]

[This question is so insane she can't actually react to how insane it is. It's like it pushed her all the way around to calm normalcy again.]

From their core crystals, Blades create weapons. They may use them themselves when situations call for it, but most commonly work in tandem with their Driver. The Driver fights while the Blade supplies ether to them and their weapon, and when sufficient power has accumulated, the Driver passes the weapon back to allow the Blade to unleash the accumulated elemental ether they have built up.

Ohhh... I think I get it!

[ Tatara sticks a hand out, like he's holding a sword. ]

So you like, fight and stuff, [ swishes his hand around because that's how you use a sword right, ] and then she goes, bwaaaah, and then you give it back, and everything...explodes?

[ He thinks for a moment, then beams. ]

That's so cool!

[ He could be totally wrong but is he worried about that... ]

[That... is close enough, so that she can actually smile.]

It is, in all honestly. Though since that power comes with responsibility, that can somewhat dilute it. If I never had to fight, it would be because there was never a need to fight.

Wow...

[ He chuckles lightly, mostly because he's proud of himself for getting her to smile. Yay, he got it right? ]

It's so much cooler when you say it. [ It's a phrase he feels like he's heard before, vaguely, and he might've thought it was corny at the time. Not when she says it, though! ]

Every day I'm so glad you're on our side. [ He takes a final sip of his tea and sets the empty cup aside. ] Thanks for telling me about Brighid, Mòrag!
