From the sounds of what you transcribed, they seem to have taken whatever preemptive measures they could before meeting with whatever fate the rest of the previous wizards did. Perhaps so long as some amount of them remained within this world, whatever magic they had set up beforehand might persist to a degree. The barriers in the North obviously didn't shatter when they all disappeared.

Whenever one of the stones was purified, people noted several lights being released, right? We couldn't detect the moonstone until the chimera was on its last legs. If the chimera, as a vessel, masked the presence of the moonstone while whole, then so too could the moonstone have potentially masked the presences of the missing wizards trapped within. [ ??? ] I wonder...
