I suspect there's at least a few of us who would rather jump to the end first without establishing a solid foundation for themselves. Not as a judgment of anyone's character in specific, but simply because in a varied group you'll get at least some.

Both, actually. Too much power all at once can easily lead to a lack of control... but so can hubris. Thinking you're well above where you are always lends to mistakes. I've seen it countless times.
