[ Tatara shrugs. ] You know how to speak to him best.
[ He says a lot in few words, though he doesn't elaborate if Ginger won't or can't read between the lines. Ginger would know how to tell Mika, if he doesn't know already, and he'd hopefully do it in a way that won't put the other wizards (well, one specific one in this case) at risk. ]
Maybe not. But I won't say no to a cup if you're gonna make some.
[ Hehe?
And so he strides over to the banquette bench and takes a seat! ]
[ He doesn't think he's ever seen this particular expression on Tatara's face before. It reminds him of - the anticipation before a tense department meeting, knowing that something might be wrong, knowing something might need to be addressed - and then wondering where the fault lies. Perhaps coffee would be best then. He nods at Tatara and leaves for the kitchen. Ten minutes, nothing more.
There's not much to be said about his room if Tatara wants to look around, except that there are signed of two people sharing, which he'd probably known about anyway.
When Ginger comes back, it's with two steaming mugs of fresh brewed coffee, made in the same way Bruno had once taught him. ]
Here.
[ He places the mug before Tatara, and takes a seat, a polite distance away. ]
[ No fault here. Definitely not when Ginger brings him the coffee—he graciously takes the cup and smiles in thanks. He takes in the aroma, and takes a leisurely sip. He'll savor the moment, at least for now.
With a satisfied hum, he lowers the cup into his lap. Let's get to it, indeed. ]
Day came to talk to me a little while ago. [ That should tip Ginger off immediately. Regardless, he's going to keep going. ] He talked about the nature of his home and how we'll likely forget about him once we send him back. He told me the biggest problem is that you might die if that happens.
[ Just getting straight to the point. No use beating around the bush. ]
I want to avoid that, obviously.
[ He smiles, and takes another sip of his coffee. A little incongruous for the subject matter, perhaps. ]
But I just wanted to let you know that I know. And that if you have any thoughts on the situation, I want to hear them. I'm here to help.
[ Ah. That’s something he has yet to mention to Mika. Or… anyone else, really. This might as well be a meeting he’s come unprepared to.
He sits there in silence, letting the coffee warm his hands where his finger idly scratches at the ceramic, letting the smell keep him alert. Finally: ]
Might. It… depends on how important the memories are, and related to that, how important the person. How much will I change without them?
If I forget Mika, I would die.
[ If Mika isn’t here, there would be no point anyway. ]
Day is… really important to me, too, so… yeah, there’s a high chance. At minimum I just unravel a little until my mind can heal itself of the gaps, and at worst I’ll unravel completely.
But if his world could affect this one, Joyous Day would be a necessity and not a choice… I think.

[ Unravel... That's worse than "die," in Tatara's mind. What's it like to unravel? Is it more painful than getting shot? Would he feel himself losing himself, then ultimately vanish a shadow of who he used to be? ]
That's sad. I don't want you to unravel, Ginger. [ So please don't forget Mika, or Day for that matter.
He kicks off his slippers to fold his legs on the bench and settles his cup of coffee between his legs. ]
That's what I think, too. It's also a problem I want to work on with you and Day, if you're okay with that.
You can help, since you’re offering. It would make it easier to tell Mika later, if I already have some sort of game plan.
And…
[ He studies Tatara. Their positions seemed to have reversed in a way from the first few weeks. It’s Tatara seeking him out of - worry? Something like that. ]
I guess I’m glad you came. I’m glad you don’t want to be sad. So - any ideas yet?
[ He nods! That's fair. And if it'll make it easier on Mika, then that's even better.
Tatara seems calm on this bench, coffee between the pretzel of his legs. If he is worried, it doesn't really show in his body language. Maybe he just tends to do things instead of thinking about them. ]
Kind of.
[ His finger taps the ceramic in brief thought. ]
I don't know if there's a way we could keep a piece of Day here, or bind a part of him here somehow. Or maybe think of a way for him to bring a piece of these stars with him when he goes home. Something like that, where his own stars don't have full domain over him.
[ He tilts his head, studying Ginger. ]
But you're an Eastern wizard, so you're probably better at that kind of magic than anyone else might be. What sounds right to you?
[ His mouth twists as he shrugs. Better at magic? Hardly. But - he breathes through his teeth, set in determination. It’s really about time he stops tripping over all the pieces of him.
They… might not fit perfectly, these mismatched things, but they fit him. Perhaps that’s why his eye hasn’t healed. Perhaps… it doesn’t need to. ]
Memories - are the issue here. [ A slow murmur as he puts together the pieces. He takes out a small bottle; in it, a dandelion wish. If a wish can be bottled, why not a memory? ] What if Day leaves a memory here? What if - we bind that?
A memory that he’s made here - that already belongs in this world. Maybe under the night sky when the stars are at its strongest.
[ He’s just thinking out loud at this point. ]
We’d have to make it so we’re not… extracting… the memory, but duplicating it, so he still remembers.
[ Keep the dots still connected, so to speak. ]
He and I seem to have some sort of bond - so… maybe you’re right and my magic would work best for this. Oh - and I think… he should reclaim his original identity.
[ Hmm... Tatara thinks. That sounds reasonable, theoretical, but he isn't a hundred percent sure how to do that. He isn't a wizard, after all. But if that's where Ginger's head is going, he'll follow. He nods.
Ginger's head goes in a slightly different direction, though, and he tilts his head. ]
Original identity? Oh— [ Flashes of things Day have told him go through his mind. ] Like...before he was Chosen?
[ Oh, oops - he forgot that wasn't public information, and he makes a face at himself for that. It's... probably... okay... since it's Tatara - and both Day and Ginger trust him to some extent. ]
Yeah... Though, I guess, it doesn't have to be his original - just... whatever he wants to claim and keep. Whoever he feels he is now.
[ It's okay, Tatara has gotten bits and pieces. That's enough, really, and he won't push the issue.
He nods. ]
That's probably the most important thing, I think. [ He sips his coffee. Mm. ] Whatever he wants to keep and leave with you—us, that should be what's captured.
[ He smiles. ]
I think this is the start of a good idea. I think it'll work out, especially with you helping him.
[ While he has faith in Ginger and Day, it would be nice to know the kind of conclusion they both come to. Not that he's really the arbiter of what will and won't work. ]

[ In a tone that means he’s telling Mika anyway, unless something big happens.
He gestures to the banquette bench. Have a seat. ]
… Do we need coffee for this conversation?

Hmm, that could work. I recorded him while we talked, but Day mentioned that fate in general has a way of erasing record of him after the fact.
