[ Robin's pretty much right. Tatara isn't really looking for respect, and the weird little look on his face at his suggestion says as much. It's almost as though he says Me? Demand respect...?
He's about to laugh it off when the subject takes a turn, and suddenly he's sitting up at attention. He lets Robin speak about a sentence and a half before he springs from his spot, grabs his red tome, and begins furiously flipping through it, all while Robin talks. Eventually, he pulls out a separate piece of paper from between the pages and quickly unfolds it. It's a crude map of the world, obviously copied from another source, with place labels written in Japanese. ]
You and Ithaqua. [ He grabs his pen belatedly, and taps the North Country label. ] Where did you find this crater?
[ yeah, that was about his read of tatara too. but he lets the weird look roll off of him; multiple times to multiple people has he said that he's not interested in herding cats or trying to guide people to act in a specific way.
(that said, he does take note of the map and tome as they appear. ah, now doesn't this bring back memories...) ]
In a very remote and isolated stretch of the north. [ he'll point out... the approximate location of wherever it was on the map tatara's got. ] It wasn't close to any settlements in particular, if that's what you're asking.
And it was just me at first, for the record. I brought Ithaqua with me on a separate trip after to see if he might catch anything that I didn't.
[ When Robin points it out, he'll quickly circle the spot and label it: Crater? ]
So something might've been there at some point, but nothing changed in the time between your visits? [ Hmm, hmm. He makes a quick note of that on his map, too, just to get the info down.
After staring at the map in thought for a moment, he looks at Robin again. ]
Do you think it's related? You said the magic was similar, right?
Correct, and I did. I found it primarily because I was searching for something that was similar to what could be felt at the cleanup site in the east. Though, the fact that the majority of the displaced monsters in the north seemed to be avoiding the area helped in that regard.
[ how to find a source of sus: go where the monsters aren't. ]
But an impact crater like that had to have been created by something. That I could not find what was responsible at the bottom means that someone likely removed it.
Given what's recently happened in the East, I think it's understandable for me to harbor concerns about what that might imply.
Remote and isolated... I guess you didn't have the luxury of asking a nearby town, like how the City of Rain told us about the gouge outside their city.
[ He sighs. Nothing is easy! ]
That concerns me, too. Especially if whatever was there was removed recently...
[ He taps his pen on the paper. ]
I wish I knew what to do. I could ask you to take me there, but I doubt any insight I might have would be any help. [ Unfortunate, but true. ] Is there anything you need me or what me to do? I could tell the castle about this if you think it might be a big problem later.
I don't think information travels very well up there, but I could be wrong. In any case, there weren't any towns located conveniently nearby to ask for details from.
... You'd have a better read of the politics than a decent number of us here, I'd imagine. [ because he's been here longer, for one thing. ] Do you think there'd be benefit to it, or do you think it'd simply be a blow to the uneasy peace that exists between, for example, the West and Central countries?
[ those two mentioned because from what he's gleaned, they have the roughest relationship with each other out of the nations in this world. ]
[ Being told he has any sort of read on politics makes him feel itchy. Help! Who is he becoming?! There's a weird little expression that crosses Tatara's face quickly at that, but it doesn't linger long. ]
I guess we can't totally dismiss the possibility that someone moved it deliberately. Especially when we don't know what it is, or if you think it's related to what happened in the East. I'll write something up and hand it in to the castle later.
[ No way to know if Robin doesn't know, but...better safe than sorry. ]
Do you have any guesses as to what might've been there?
[ listen he knows exactly how off it sounds given (gestures at tatara) but. tatara actually talks to the country reps and everyone on the ground regularly. the rest of them not so much.
besides, he's known a couple of of not so formal heads of state. congrats, little sage... ]
Considering the crater left behind, I imagine it must have been something that fell from afar.
[ such as ... the moon, perhaps. ]
Given that it would apparently not be the first of its kind, considering what some of the previous groups have relayed, and the fact that the feeling of the lingering magic is similar to the cleanup site in the east, it's probably safe to say it was yet another moonstone. Or something related, at the very least.
And given what messes the other incidents caused by them have appeared to be ... Well, if we don't find it, then I imagine it will make itself known to us somehow, eventually.
[ Well. Those moon rocks had to get down here somehow, right? ]
Yeah... [ Tatara purses his lips in thought. There are too many blanks in his info at this point. They'll just have to see what kind of moon rock (?) the Norths bring back. They didn't find anything in the East, so...
Actually, that part concerns him the most. ]
If it was a moon stone, then be careful. It'll probably come back to us somehow, eventually.
[ He sighs, maybe a little too dramatically. ]
The North is ruthless, especially. Don't let your guard down. Be ready for anything, okay?
