...Anyway, I got sidetracked for a bit, but there's, uh. An important thing I oughta tell you related to the whole...gettin' blessed and workin' for Heaven thing.
[ Day is suddenly very grateful that he got the worst of this out when he told Ginger the first time weeks ago, and got something like a practice run in with Malice, even if he had to couch it as a what-if to make it bearable.
...It doesn't really feel right to do that with Yamato, though. ]
So, like... 'fore I worked for Heaven, I lived a regular life as a mortal down in the mortal realm. All the agents in the bureau are, how to say, Chosen by our top bosses to get their blessing one day, and when that happens, we can take the job. You could say we're destined for it.
...When the appointed hour arrives and destiny comes for us, everyone in our mortal lives forgets about us, and mortals can't remember us again after.
That seems so sad. Lonely. Like the people you meet are nice but the relationships are meaningless because they'll all forget about you in the end, anyway. What a life that Day's had to live, and that says so much about why he's had his moments of being reserved around Yamato specifically.
When he thinks about what to say, though...
...
He just ends up smiling. It's a bit more like a smirk, actually. ]
Then it's a good thing I'm not just a plain mortal anymore, isn't it? I'm a wizard.
[ Ah. ...In a way, this is a reaction he should have expected from Yamato, but he's still caught off-guard anyway. ]
Heh, it's true. Though if you ask me, wizards are just mortals with a bunch of extras tacked on, too. Even gods and spirits have problems rememberin' me, though I tend to stick in their memories a little longer.
...Truthfully, I think everyone can remember me now prob'ly 'cause we're all wizards here, and prob'ly 'cause the stars here are different. I dunno what will happen when I go back [ not "if", "when", because Day's never thought of not returning ], or if anyone else decides to go back home.
[ He hums thoughtfully, at that. It might be different when he goes back home, yeah. He may not be considered a wizard anymore, when that happens. It's hard to say, but he also doesn't want to forget Day. Not now, not ever. ]
How about this, then? Write your name, age, and where I met you on a piece of paper. List whatever you want me to remember about you the most. Give it to me when you're done, and I'll take it with me.
You're too good to be forgotten, Day. Consider this a way of making sure at least this much will stay with me, even if something were to happen.
[ Gods. Yamato is too good to him. It's why Day is covering his face with his hands, feeling kind of chagrined that he has to explain another terrible reality: ]
I've tried that before. You'd be surprised how many damn ways fate finds to keep everything off record. [ In the weary tone of someone who had a similar idea to Yamato and got thwarted at every turn.
But he doesn't want to say this situation is without hope, especially since someone else brought up an idea he would have dismissed weeks ago: ]
...But Malice—suggested that maybe I can find a way 'round this damned arcane fate, since we've got magic here. And I didn't seriously think 'bout it before, but...I wanna try. [ It's so weird, saying that. First with Ginger, now here again, but not just some vague desire to stay in a person's memories. Actually saying he doesn't want to give up again. ]
To be honest, I'm not really sure where to start 'cause it's kind of... [ He gestures with his hands as if to emphasize the scale of the underlying problem. ] big. Unless someone can figure out how to fix a broken constellation, but if we ain't figured out how to do that back home for a millennium, I dunno if the odds are better here.
...So I guess it might be better to approach this as, I dunno, a way to help me keep my ties with you guys or maybe even this world. Like an "anchor" that keeps my fate still visible even if it gets hidden away back home.
Hmmm...an anchor, you say? Some sort of seal that'll keep you bound to people, maybe?
[ Man, can he even do that kind of magic right now? Hard to say, but he'll contemplate this. He'll think hard about it. He's got some other things on his mind in regards to his capabilities as a wizard, so this might be within his scope and he just doesn't know it yet. ]
I'll see if I can come up with something. Let me know if someone else has something for you though, okay?
I dunno if "close" is the right word for it, more like... It was buggin' me, and he was willin' to listen.
[ And for that he feels a little bad that Malice now carries some of that burden, even if Day had tried to couch it as a what-if, for what little good it did. ]

I'll try something, if you think it'll work.

But... thanks, Yamato. [ A small smile. ] I ain't told many people 'bout this yet.

[ Tatara answered some of his questions, after all! Kinda. ]
Don't worry, though. It's safe with me. I won't spread it around.

Maybe, yeah.
Malice knows. [ Surprise? ] And Ginger was the first person I ever told. [ So it's fine if it somehow comes up with either of them, he means. ]

Malice? Huh, I didn't know you two were that close.

[ Bless Malice and his straightforward self. ]
...I just figured you deserve to know. You're one of my closest friends here.

[ And it feels nice to say it. It feels easier than it would've before, to tell someone that sincerely. ]
So there's no way I can let myself forget who you are, knowing that.
