Everyone's out of the woods for now. [ He's not going to say okay, given how even if they're physically fine now, he's not sure if okay would be the word he'd use for most of them. ] And far as I could see, everyone who healed's fine too. Kinda makes it obvious our magic's still pretty amateur, though.
Yep, I'm fine. I can go a little longer without feedin' so you don't have'ta worry 'bout me.
[But it is nice that so many people have asked him that. If he's okay, when there are plenty of other people they should concern themselves with instead.]
Twice a week at most, but I usually feed once a week. I don't need too much if I feed when I'm not as hungry - an' I make sure never to drain anyone too damn much.
[He rubs the back of his head with a sigh.]
Where I'm from, people don't lose control like that if they can help it. 'Cause if you lose control, you... don't come back. You're just stuck like a mindless beast only wantin' blood. So when I say I'm careful, I mean it. It's all I've ever known.
It's a one-way trip, basically. [ For the second time tonight, he finds himself thinking of Sunrise asking them to put her down if she ever loses herself, and it's only because Day has practice that he doesn't frown at the thought. ] I trust you, then. And...
[ A pause, as he can feel a part of him judge himself a little for what he's about to say. ]
...If it ever comes up during an emergency, you can have a drink from me.
[He's sure Day wouldn't offer it if he didn't mean it, so there's no reason to question it any. Yet he does anyway, because humans being willing to offer their blood to vampires is always something of an anomaly.]
I appreciate it. Really, it's kind of ya to offer. If I need the help, I'll ask for it.
I'm still reeling from how most people here even have surnames.
[ It just strikes him as weird, since...well, commoners on the isle don't have family names, and it doesn't strike him like the tribes down in the South where clan lineage means a lot, if not necessarily everything. ]
Annoyin' an' pretentious. My ol' lady's name is "Rosalie of Annihilation Eclipse". The "of whatever pretentious thing here" title is their family name an' they use their whole damn names with other nobles all the time it's suuuuch a pain.
My ol' lady's a vampire lord. 'Cept, I didn't know that 'til she captured me. She thought I was dead, but I'd been abandoned in the slums, an' I never knew her. But she let me stay with her for awhile, tryin' to teach me how to fit in an' all. It went 'bout as well as you'd expect, given everythin' I am.
[It was a disaster. He tried? But whoof. Never again.]
You look way better as you are now, I imagine. What were the odds of you turning out to be some noble's bastard child, though...
[ Though in Day's experience, that sort of thing is less common than the stories would have you think, but happens more often than anyone would like still. ]
Right? It's totally crazy. I thought for sure she was lyin' at first, but... Well, I mean, vampires can kinda tell who their kin are just by scent an' senses an' she did seem familiar in a way I couldn't place. So that much is true, strange as it sounds.
Huh. Guess fate works out funny like that. [ He says as if he isn't familiar with exactly all the weird little ways fate works in. ] Is kin important to vampires, or...? [ It's kind of hard to say whenever the answer with nobles back home has always been "It's Complicated". ]
Usually, yeah. 'Specially for nobles. They use 'em like pawns though, matchmakin' an' makin' allies for whatever stupid squabbles they're bound to get into, over territory or whatever. So it's not so much the kin that's important as it is the bloodline, if that makes sense?

Everyone doin' better now? Y'all didn't wear yourselves out healin' 'em, did you?

[Though sometimes putting yourself through a harrowing situation is the best way to make progress. So there's. That??]
Thanks for helpin' out with 'em. I would'a stuck around to do what I could but... well, y'know.
[He's a vampire. There was blood. Bad things would've happened.]

He trusts Malice's word on this, but tonight's Adventure has made him want to know the details. ]
How often do you need to feed, anyway?

Can't say I ever imagined I'd be offering my blood one day, but there's a first time for everything.
