[ ftr, khun's been watching cid with interest this entire time. he dips his head in acknowledgement at the colorful adjectives, looking throughly amused. ]
The usual, they're power hungry, think they're superior—especially to Central and the East. They have an active R&D department in their military and their efforts are well funded and spare no expense. Oh, and their officers club leaves nothing wanting and makes a mean Gin Fizz.
Congratulations on your thorough experience with those of the West. If you have anything else more to share, please do.
[ Jing Yuan says politely at the somewhat late introduction of all this, because now we have information out there; fortunately this may coincide with how things were metered out in one thread to him too, yay. ]
While we're on the subject, this reminds me...
Them having an active R&D department coincides with the apparent suspicious activities a high-ranking researcher from the West claims to have gotten up to with the previous group of wizards. There was an expedition team with him that conducted some research out, apparently in the East, and it resulted in explosive consequences, wiping out all but one. Have they said anything about that?
but khun has nothing more to elaborate on for now. ]
Both of ours [ he tilts his head toward cid cheerful, finally taking a small piece of fruit to munch on. ] , I'm friendly with one of their generals who invited me to tour Western Country. It's always best to take a friend, isn't it?
[ cid is now a friend, yay! ]
They haven't mentioned it, but I doubt that's something they would mention outside a personal meeting. We've both been busy, but I could ask him if he's up for another round of drinks and see where that leads.
It certainly is better than going into a place by oneself.
[ Aw...Khun is making friends. That's probably a good thing. ]
Hmm, well. I don't see the harm in you doing so. I will continue looking into matters on my end.
Oh, and the site of the explosion is likely that crater we saw in East Country. That researcher who survived apparently seems to have been most likely involved in cleaning it up...at least to a certain extent, since those affiliated with the city did not claim responsibility in doing so.
The General really seemed to look down on East, so the fact that they're cooperating is strange on it's own. As for what it is, it really could be any number of things given Western Country's aspirations.
It could very well be not something that many Easterners know of, if there is hidden collaboration with the West. Though, it is about to become our problem soon enough...as I suspect it is related to the Great Calamity.
In addition, this researcher mentioned something about 'hidden labs'. So, if they have something like that in Eastern territory to help facilitate their research and clean up, I would hardly be surprised.
Come to think of it, the General showed more disdain towards the North and South, though he clearly wasn't fond of Central either. As far as the East went, he spoke more of their antisocial tendencies than anything else. I suppose if they were to be cooperating, that would be their only choice. Still, I can't imagine Eastern country joining with another nation unless they stood to gain something great.
Do you know if anyone spoke to an Eastern dignitary, Jing Yuan?
[ Jing Yuan seems to be considering this more closely... ]
Unfortunately at this time I have not heard of anyone speaking with an Eastern dignitary as of yet—though, I believe it is highly likely at least a couple among our number have had the opportunity. Given the size of our group it would be far more improbable of it not being the case.
[ Thinking again— ]
Once again, it could be simply the Western Country doing this all on their own. If anyone from the East was assisting, I doubt it'd be a large percentage; if at all.
Completely under their noses? Eastern country would need to be both idiotic and blind.
[ which jy did account for at the end, but he has to restate given how unlikely he thinks that possibility is. ]
Even if the Eastern dignitaries weren't involved, getting their priorities could shed light on the general mentality of the East which would be useful for figuring out potential West-East alliances.
Haha, you have a fair point. It would be rather foolish if they were not that attentive, and they do not strike me as that, at the very least.
[ Ergo, in the end, something must be going on in the background; or at least, the probability is still high. He likes to consider all perspectives, but consideration does nothing until confirmation settles in. ]
Well, we should do our best to see what we can both find out on the matter, then. You have your own allies you can converse with, and I certainly have my own.
Since it is true having an idea of their general attitudes towards the West, even if the dignitaries were not involved themselves, will only assist us further.
Quite literally what I and my comrades have fought against in the past. The Western Country's machinations doth align with that of the Garlean Empire to a frightening degree.
[He doesn't expect "Garlean Empire" to mean anything to anyone here. He's just giving a name to the aforementioned war crime committers.]
You don't need to beat yourself up about it. My interests don't really align with theirs either, but I do appreciate the prestige and opulence they offer.
Maybe you're suited for the West that way?
[ ...he's also not opposed to war crimes, but they need to work in his interest. it's fine. ]
Actually, I'd like to know how we were sorted, too! Maybe it's personality? This feels like how Knights used to be, individualists! I kinda like that! I guess if we disagree we can always do a Duel, too! ♪
