[ The general chaos of arrival is generally settling...and Tatara realizes he has no idea who his neighbor is.
So, pick your favorite time of day. That's when Tatara gives a loud knock on 2-1's door, because some self introductions are in order. Hello!! Hello!! ]
[ Jing Yuan can't quite divine that Shinjiro's intentions weren't great, so it is with little surprise that he finds the answer acceptable, focusing on the rest of what he has to say or do for now.
Also, he supposes that was a bit more abrupt than he would've liked, but even he has moments in his old age. He does summon away his weapon, though.
Totally figuring he surprised him for obvious reasons and nothing else. ]
...Ah, that is also a suitable choice.
Of course it seems to be a weapon of some sort, but it isn't exactly the kind that would accidentally knock aside someone standing a few feet away, hm?
[ Personas are one thing, but the people around here are weird in a way that nearly puts the Dark Hour to shame. He hasn't been here very long, but he can figure out that much; even if it was a hard pull to swallow.
The question earns a faint scoff, and a shake of the head to go with it. ]
It ain't a weapon. [ Not...traditionally, anyway. ] Not real.
[ The fear is real, certainly, the feeling of pulling the trigger is real...but that's about it. ]
It's something I got no use for anymore. [ And yet, his fingers still tighten on it, gaze flickering. ] But getting rid of it wouldn't feel right, either.
( Sometime in the evening, a little before normal people sleep, there will be a soft knock at Jing Yuan's door.
Should he open it, he'll find a Mika - seeming uneasy about his decision to approach someone he's bitten up, for once, but sticking to his choice now that he's made it. )
[ Jing Yuan approaches, adorned in something far more casual than his usual attire. Loose fitting white robes, with a darker sort underneath; one might presume fits far more for something inclined towards bed-time.
He yawns a little, but turns his attention towards Mika with a little half-smile. ]
Ah, good evening, Mika. Did you wish to speak with me about something?
[ He will step back if the other desires to enter his room. ]
( The lack of prejudice in Jing Yuan's gaze upon seeing him bothers Mika, even knowing perfectly well that Jing Yuan makes an effort to be level. He should dislike him - at the very least. He shouldn't be inviting him to his room. But all of these people just...
After a moment's hesitation, he steps into the room - he'd prefer this to people overhearing. He glances around, taking it in carefully, before his gaze returns to Jing Yuan once he's closed the door. )
... How's your arm?
( Mika seems ... visibly guilty. Definitely ashamed. )
[ The morning after Khun and Mika's fiasco, Jing Yuan will get a knock on his door. If he answers it, he'll see Yamato standing outside with a warm cup of tea in his hand. Just one, though. ]
[ Jing Yuan is, surprisingly, actually already up at this time, windows open to listen to the sound of bird song, and practicing magic to add to it. So, Yamato can hear the song of finches chirp when he asks though it sounds so natural he may not pay it much mind?
It does become quiet when he dispels it, heading to the door, a little surprised that he has a visitor so soon. He moves to open it swiftly; he is dressed in casual attire, something simple like white robes and darker ones. Still layers but for ease of movement and sleep. ]
A little tired, but nothing some rest won't fix. [ A small yawn escapes him and he fixes the other with a little smile. ] I had no idea I worried you so, and...ah, is that for me?
[ He doesn't pay it much mind, no, but Jing Yuan's room does sound pretty peaceful. He'll hand over the cup regardless. ]
You've earned it, after the other night. Thanks for being so quick to act.
[ They did good. They did good! He can't say he's entirely happy about his own performance or anything, but Jing Yuan stepped up. Yamato respects it a lot. ]
Jing Yuan laughs, because it's clear that despite his words, he hasn't quite thought about it! ]
Ah, maybe more hanging out in a general sense with others. You must understand the value of having such little free time to do anything like that. But, I haven't had much of the opportunity to do so in the fullest extent in certain ways.
It has usually been by having the occasional drink or two, but there is room to expand the amount of activities available.
It is just figuring out that could be the issue. Do you see my dilemma?
[ He keeps rolling the apple around in his hand. It's such a simple thing, but Jing Yuan's words makes him remember that even simple things can be special. ]
I do, but... it's a little sad I think? A lesson to not take hanging out with others for granted. It's not like the people we want to be around today are guaranteed to stay until tomorrow.
[ Um. He's trying to be positive actually. ]
So! Let's keep exploring together and just enjoy today.
( This is so weird for Mika because he doesn't really do wellness checks, but... he's doing his rounds this night (a few nights after the Granvelle Ghost incident), and he stops to linger in front of Jing Yuan's door. He can hear him inside, so after a few moments of pause, he'll just... knock once. If no response maybe he can just skedaddle— )
[ Jing Yuan isn't exactly unused to surprises, and the threats are not dissimilar to Heliobi, among other things.
Thus, him considering strategies, making note of personal blunders. He even practices magic at the same time with even more focus; transformation, illusion, and then trying light-themed magic even if his 'country affiliation' is ill-suited to it. Still, he isn't expecting anyone to knock upon his door, even if only once.
Jing Yuan stops his efforts, silencing birdsong, even if the 'finches' can be seen in sight when he opens the door. He is dressed in his casual wear, and offers a tired, lazy smile. ]
Good day, Mika. Is there something I can help you with?
[ Jing Yuan has been, as it so happens to be, seemingly taking his sweet time with everything. All people have been moving forward, making their choices...
...Yet, it is he who sees the full picture. Shadows, vague shapes, the darkness the etches at the back of his mind, a future still formless and uncertain, with the whispers of whatever other misbegotten plans of the Moon that rebels in sinking over the horizon. That stirs the oceans within the deep, and summons chaos threatening to reign to herald in the Great Calamity.
Thus now, Jing Yuan calmly asks at a certain time on a certain day for everyone to gather in his room for a meeting. The room is large as well as spacious enough for five people, though it is still something of a tight fit. There are a multitude of chairs, alongside a spot designated for a table, with notepads, writing implements, and...snacks.
It seems Jing Yuan has brought some basic food (a variety of seasonal fruits, the traditional green tea in a jade-colored teapot with small cups available for everyone, and some egg sandwiches.)
If anyone needed to be reminded or escorted to the meeting, Jing Yuan would personally also have made sure of it. ]
Greetings everyone. I am happy to see all of you can make it.
We should discuss matters of importance, such as what we have heard from foreign delegates, or from other sources. Though, it is also imperative to ensure we each know each other's names.
I believe most of you already know who I am. But, to re-familiarize you all, I am Jing Yuan. It is a pleasure to be working with all of you.
[ A smile, easily made, is given to all of them.
Let the meeting called by one of the seven Arbiter-Generals of the Xianzhou Alliance, Jing Yuan, begin! ]
[ Leo needed both a reminder and an escort. Now that he's there he's not even sitting at a chair...he's sprawled on his stomach on the floor, happily scribbling away in a notebook. But he does peer up when talking happens, sort of. ]
Important things~? I don't think I've heard anything all that important, though, except maybe that mysterious~ fortune!
[ Which he still doesn't understand so haha whatever! About that! ]
- But names? I'm Tsukinaga Leo, the genius composer~! Pleasure, pleasure! Everyone say hiiiiiiiiii.
[Urianger is here, prompt and politely seated. When it’s his turn for an introduction, though, he rises to his feet so he can give a bow.]
My name is Urianger Augurelt. I have met a few of thee, but for those I have not, ‘tis a pleasure to make thine acquaintance. I offer mine apologies for not having introduced myself sooner.
[After returning to his seat, he motions toward Leo.]
As with Master Leo, I too received a fortune from a mysterious stranger some few weeks ago. ‘Twas foretold that I am fated to connect with a fellow wizard.
[ khun comes in exactly at the appointed time, not a second earlier or later, directly from next door. his hair is up in a high ponytail, bangs clipped to the side by a hairpin with blue flowers. ]
Khun Aguero Agnis. You can just call me Khun.
[ the snacks and fruit get a curious look and he deposits himself in a chair close to them, crossing his right leg over his left. ]
As far as things to note, I got a fortune a few weeks ago too.
"The same flame burns within them, but that energy is expended selflessly, to those around them."
[Just assume Cid has been here the whole time monching on fruits and egg sandwiches. These are some fancy chairs and less-fancy snacks but like, he's not picky. He has a thing out for taking notes, even but currently it's just filled with doodles of... ducks and ponds?
Don't mind that.
He raises his pen or quill or whatever they use around here once it looks like things are settling.]
Cid Kagenou. I'm learning magic back home and I'm learning magic here, so I guess I'm like, an extra diligent student.
[... That's the extent of his introduction. But hey, it's actually pretty helpful that people keep telling their names!! He can probably at least remember these, since for some weird reason they're all sorted by country like they're regional specialties the spirits are keeping around for kicks. Tapping his pen or quill or whatever thoughtfully against his nose.]
My fortune's something about innovation and screwing it up? Maybe I'm supposed to be looking for some kind of mad scientist.
Speaking of which, there's something going on with the whole West country, I think? Their people are pretty shady and their stuff is even shadier.
[Sorry that tells you very little but Cid is Cid, he is used to being exposited to rather than the one expositioning.]
[ There are the sounds of birds chirping that quiet when Khun knocks on the door (there are still sounds of them that persist but not as loud.)
Jing Yuan goes to open his door. Once he does, he will give Khun a friendly and polite smile in greeting. ]
I can. Please, do come in.
I am also glad to see that you are well.
[ The room looks the same as it did during the meeting, with the cushy red chairs, and the like. Except there are random finches all over the bed, as well as window sills, hopping around.
Jing Yuan takes a seat at one of the red chairs, settling his hands upon his lap. ]
[While Solomon feels genuinely stronger than he had the previous week, the presence of the ocean from every direction has him sluggish and subdued. Even with the higher energy of the West, of the more welcoming atmosphere and vibrant culture that embraces the magical in a way that feels so foreign, Solomon still finds himself uneasy.
Like the calm before a storm, and with very little he personally can do to stop it.
...
Still, he lets himself take the time for leisure in the best ways he knows how. Diving through books, constantly in conversation with the wizards around the town, distractions from how difficult it is to think about his own magic right now. It's strange, how it feels as though the curse isn't quite the same here. Maybe it's his own perceptions holding him back...?
...
Still, whether his magic is muted or otherwise, mana stones have put a punch to his magic that is a welcome change, a kissing breath to that which he's more familiar. It makes the struggle of the sea's proximity easier to work through. Better for it, when he has something that he needs to complete with absolute certainty.
He vanishes into his temporary quarters at the island for the good portion of an evening and well into the next morning. Has anyone seen him for breakfast? Hm. But when he finally emerges, a little exhausted and unaware of the time, his goal is to find one person and one alone.
It takes some concerted effort when Jing Yuan has found about the most difficult place on the island to retreat to for rest, but wherever it is he's perched on the castle, he'll see the dancing shape of golden, iridescent sugar crystals floating close by him, like stars with a mind of their own. Solomon perches on his broom a few stories down, fully standing against the handle with his wand held casually to his side with one hand, and his other keeping a fabric pouch of starry black held tight to his hip.
[ What might make it easier is that today Jing Yuan doesn't move from this spot in particular over the past few days; it's funny that when the man seems very much approachable that if he wishes to make himself scarce no one will be able to find him. But, he is the type of man who thinks no one would necessarily go out of their way to hunt him down like he does others, so he can be assured of his alone time. He doesn't bother to garb himself in his usual attire either, so whenever Solomon glimpses him, he will see him at last in casual attire.
Though, staring outwards into the sky, he doesn't leave his head empty. Only pondering of the dark edges of supposed actions, where all the pieces are settled; flickers of gold—predictable, he thinks for the most part. Images of a solitary figure draped with midnight, still asleep, witnessed by his own eyes—images of others going about their day, their reactions, their talks—from memories experienced. An uncertain future—then his next move.
He opens his eyes, letting it all wash away in cloud of golden dust, including the chessboard. He turns towards the sugar crystals, expression completely blank at first, before easing into a smile when he gazes down at where Solomon is. ]
Come a little closer, why don't you?
[ Jing Yuan can always...'ponder' on matters later, can he not? Jing Yuan reaches for the sugar crystals to touch them, to gather them playfully into his hand. ]
early week 2 probably?
So, pick your favorite time of day. That's when Tatara gives a loud knock on 2-1's door, because some self introductions are in order. Hello!! Hello!! ]
no subject
Even if it's, like, midday, he's yawning as soon as he sees Tatara's face. Interrupting his afternoon grandpa naps, how rude.
Nah, just kidding; the yawning still happens, though. ]
...Hm? What is it?

[ Tatara smiles, in all of shock and surprise and delight. There's his neighbor. ]
