[ Wow, he's feeling a little called out? Huffing about it won't help his case, so he just closes his book over his fingers to keep his place. ]

...I see.

[ He'll take that as a compliment. ]

What are the rest of your group members like?

[dadsandals]

[ TEEHEE. ]

Let's see...there're five others. Riku, our upbeat and hardworking center; Tama, who's Iori's age and loves pudding; Sou, who's closer to my age and one of the most dedicated people I know; Nagi, who loves us more than anyone else; and Mitsu, who also worked hard to get where he is today.

[ His expression is incredibly fond. He loves them a lot, it seems...but he also seems a little sad, talking about them. ]

You really miss them, don't you?

[ It's the first thing out of Kurapika's mouth, an observation he feels is important to point out, otherwise Yamato may never acknowledge it. ]

[dadsandals]

[ ... ]

Why are you looking at me that way?

[ A sigh escapes his lips. He doesn't want to think about them, but. ]

Of course I do.

[ His expression relaxes. ]

…I didn’t think you would actually answer me.

[dadsandals]

It's embarrassing, but...yeah. I just wanna go home.

[ He's so tired, man. ]

I don't know if they'll have a space for me anymore, but there's only one way to find out.

What do you mean? Why wouldn't they?

[ It sounded as if Yamato was fond of all of them, so why wouldn't that fondness be returned? ]

[dadsandals]

Hmmm.

[ His smile evens out, like he's trying to hide something, like he's trying not to let Kurapika know how bothered about that he really is. ]

Arguments happen. Sometimes, things don't go smoothly. That's all there is to it.

It clearly isn't.

[ Do you think he's unable to see just how fake that smile is, Yamato?

Kurapika knows a liar when he sees one. ]

If it was a simple argument, you wouldn't worry about going back.

[dadsandals]

Hey, hey, it was a pretty intense one, you know.

[ He carefully clasps his hands together in his lap. ]

... You don't believe me, do you?

You know what one of my abilities was back home, Yamato?

[ He leans forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his knees. ]

Dowsing Chain—I could find objects and missing people, but I could also detect lies. After using it so often, I learned to spot them even without it.

[dadsandals]

[ Jesus Christ. Why is he so intimidating. Why can't he just lie in peace, man- ]

Why do you want to know so badly? It's -- they're my mistakes. My act to clean up. It's my fault that I might not even have a home to go back to anymore.

...

That's...what you wanted to hear. Wasn't it.

[ That, indeed, was very honest and said out of frustration. So yeah. ]

I wouldn't say I wanted to.

[ But, well... hm.

He actually likes Yamato, so. Maybe he did want to hear it. ]

Why can't you clean up your act, then? If you care that much about returning home, resolve to fix things.

[dadsandals]

I already have. You don't have to worry about that.

[ He's got issues, a lot of them, but that's one of the things he's figured out during his time here. ]

But...a lot of my worries have to do with my personal history. Heh...being the hidden lovechild of a famous actor, and all the baggage that comes with that, might be pretty dangerous for my group. I've already got people on my case about it...and I didn't tell them. I didn't tell them what's been weighing on my mind.

Mitsu decided he was tired of it. We got into a fight over it.

It sounds like you already know what your mistake was there.

[ So he's not going to harp on that, not at all. Instead, he'll shift the focus a bit here, turning to what's solvable. ]

So... what do you plan on doing about it?

[dadsandals]

Telling them, of course. The truth and all of that. After that...it'll be up to them.

[ The truth. The reality of how this might hurt their reputation. The reality of how untrustworthy and vile he really is. ]

[revengier]

[ Kurapika sits back in his chair again, letting out a sigh. ]

You would be surprised at what your friends will accept, Yamato. They sound like good friends, so... all they need is an explanation.

[dadsandals]

[ That gets him to pause for a moment. ]

...I hope you're right.

[ He fears he's done too much damage already, but. ]

Are you speaking from experience?

[revengier]

I am, in a way.

[ His experience doesn't compare to Yamato's, not in any sense. They've lived very different lives, and so he knows that comparing will still leave them with something fundamentally different. ]

I confided in my friends about my plans and my goals. [ He glances over at Yamato. ] My goals aren't exactly easy to accept, but they did so anyway.

[dadsandals]

[ He considers asking what they are for a second, but Kurapika didn't pry too much, so Yamato figures he'll leave it at that. Return the favor and all. If Kurapika wants to say something, he'll do it on his own accord. ]

Your friends are pretty forgiving, then. Haha...hearing that helps me have a little more faith in mine, too.

Short of wanting to kill people, I'm sure your friends will forgive whatever you divulge to them.

[ Yamato seems like he's from a peaceful world, so Kurapika here is just going to assume killing is pretty rare... ]

Or perhaps they would even help you dispose of the bodies.

That's a really big jump, Kura.

[ He is, indeed, from a peaceful world (??) and he is currently not considering murder, so. ]

At least, for me, it is. That's incredibly illegal, where I'm from.

Where I'm from, murder is illegal unless you have a Hunter's License.

[ How normal, right? ]

...I'm glad that you live in a world where it's a big jump, Yamato.

[ Genuinely. He isn't jealous, nor does he mean it in a condescending way. It's good to be from somewhere without that threat looming over you. ]

I am, too.

[ Just saying, but...man. Kurapika... ]

Your world's dangerous. I remember thinking that much. Are you always fighting for your life, back there?

Not really. I have a bit of a reputation, so I don't get threatened.

[ He has a feeling that Yamato is going to ask what he means by that, so Kurapika doesn't wait to explain. ]

I'm the Nostrade family boss. I have plenty of people under me that can handle any real threats.
