...So somethin' like a protection charm. [ He feels like that alone already kind of hints at what he has to address to actually make it work. ]

See, I'm not gonna protect him from everything—[ That's kind of impossible here, he thinks. He won't say he's well-versed in magic but sometimes he thinks he can sense what limitations there are, especially because he's not an experienced wizard. ]—but I want it to protect him from something that woulda been lethal, so that the situation you just told me 'bout won't repeat, hopefully. [ Where recovering from bodily trauma that extreme seems to drain Mika and triggers the hunger frenzy. ] And it protectin' him from stuff that'd kill him would...well, also be good, obviously.

[ "Obviously" like he isn't kind of aware that Mika is not fond of his undead existence, but. You know. ]

Oh. If that's the case, then yeah, I'm all for it.

[ Complicated feelings aside, Mika has been through quite a lot! He deserves it. Probably. ]

I have no idea if Khun's giving up on going after him or not, so I don't think it'd be a bad idea.

[ Well, that possibility adds an element of time pressure too! This is fine. ]

I'm not sure if Mika will take it.

Yeah, you're right. I have my doubts about that, too, knowing him...

[ And he gets it. Boy, does he get why Mika would refuse. ]

Guess I could appeal to logic, [ that seemed to work during their first meeting ] but it feels a little cold for my likin' considerin' how I'm gonna have to make this charm work.

[ He squints a little into the wine in his glass. ] ...And I guess it seems kinda awkward when I wasn't even there when that shit went down.

[ Not him. Not Yamato. He's not the right person for it. He can kind of guess who would be, but he'll defer to Day first. ]

[ Possibly too willing, which Day isn't quite sure how he should feel about, but one thing at a time, he supposes. ]

[ For what it's worth, Yamato isn't wrong. His gaze moves up a little because he's not about to disagree with Yamato, but he also can't help wondering if it really is a good thing for Mika. In a way, it's about trying to keep a greater group of people safe(-ish. his confidence in keeping them safe is not exactly high right now) and protecting Ginger's feelings as much as it is about protecting Mika. If not more so, depending on how charitably one wants to view this.

[ Perhaps it isn't an entirely charitable act, but it's still going to serve a good, greater purpose, he thinks. Yamato also has the tendency to value some people highly -- his tendency to try to lift others up before himself is coming in hot here. (They've both got their secrets, it seems.)

It kind of sinks in that Yamato really does come from a relatively peaceful life, in a way that Day has to try hard to imagine these days. And if that isn't kind of screwed up, Day doesn't know what it is. ]

...There's a sayin' back where I'm from. "Violence is inescapable." [ He will let that sit for a moment. ] There are beautiful, gentle things in the world, and many more that are stupid, cruel and brutal. I've seen my share of both, that's all.

... I don't blame you for wanting some semblance of peace. Truth be told, I didn't expect any of that to happen, either. Most of us didn't.

I just don't want you to feel like you have to deal with it by yourself.

[ There's a sort of slow blink, like he's chewing on what Yamato just told him.

...It's true that there are other people here, so he doesn't have to deal with this alone. It's just easy to get into that mode because that's what he does: work in the background to try and smoothen things out, maybe preempt disaster. The less aware people are of this, the better. ]
