[ it's late at night but not dark due to the moon's light (the evil moon, if the sage is to be believed) and khun is in the courtyard with a blanket, a whole lot of junk spread out across it. there's a hair brush, stationary supplies, books, a small potted plant, a chess board, a briefcase, a jack with marbles...you get the picture.
he sighs loudly, exasperated. ]
Maybe I should try a lantern? That's kind of similar to a lighthouse...
[Considering they all of them arrived on an elevator (what elevator fits like 30 people........... it was probably less than that but it felt like more considering their token giants, at least to those below 626 6 feet) -- it's hard not to want to investigate any and all elevators on the premises.
And this one even goes to the mysterious and faraway lands of the Central capital (and also actual mysterious and faraway lands, who knew a single elevator that isn't even a space elevator could be this magical??), so it sees a lot of use.
Just today, though, it's seen a lot of use. As in, there's a boy in a black wizard's uniform with red highlights just sort of going up and down and up and down and sideways and I actually don't know how this elevator works, it goes and it goes. With our apologies to literally anyone who's waiting for it to come back from wizard Antarctica (North??) or something.
Ding. Cid blinks as the doors open back at the manor and he spots yet another person waiting. At this point--]
Welcome to your regularly scheduled wizard elevator ride. I've still got no idea how this thing works, but I think I've worked out, like, half the buttons.
[Maybe. He can be an elevator operator instead of a wizard!!]

[ for a brief second khun tenses at kazuma's arrival, a particularly sharp gaze accompanying it. khun's missing his lighthouse already, but really even without it, he shouldn't be caught so unaware. ]
[This guy enters and stands to a side, crossing his arms all cool and dark and broody]
Only half? Please don't tell me you plan to work out the rest while I'm standing here.
[It's not like Kiryu was in any hurry to go somewhere, but still, getting stuck in an elevator while this guy presses the emergency button by accident isn't his idea of a fun time]
[Oho?? Ohoho? This is a wall-leaning too-cool-for-school type! In the flesh! He looks like a totally sore thumb in the middle of a fantasyland wizardtopia, but that’s what makes it so great!
...... Cid wipes the expression wanting to take over his face which is like: what happens when a BRUISER walks into a SQUISHY RPG MAGE BAR and does his best to keep his friendly mock-customer-service voice.]
Well, I usually let other people get to their destination first... buuut I accidentally hit one button too many. So now it’s going toooo.... [glances?] The Cave of Time? There’s some really interesting places up north, so I wanted to rule out all possibilities when it comes to world and timetraveling.
[It was already hard to believe this elevator could go all over the place, because that doesn't make any sense! And now turns out it's going into a cave, with potential timetraveling.
How]
Us having this elevator available is just asking to lose half of the group at random places.
[As if he could ever resist timetraveling nonsense!!!
There are some who say timetravel is Dangerous and To-Be-Avoided and none of those people are Cid Kagenou because technically, he's seen at least three different eras now; just because they're in different worlds doesn't make them less all over the place timeline-wise. Also it's possible he statted literally everything into INT instead of WIS.
Anyway -- he puts on a reassuring grin. Head empty!]
It's not like a whole group hasn't already been lost, anyway, so it probably can't get too much worse. Besides, I've barely even met half this group.
[Would he even notice if they lost half. Uh. Well, he knows the vague numbers, but as to whether he'd notice if specific people wandered off....... the jury is out.]
You never know. If we look around enough, we might even run into all those other wizards just stuck back in prehistory or something.
You could say that. It got to me when I didn't ask for it.
[It's not like he had it from the start -- his inventory was pretty much only the clothes on his back -- but when he least expected it, it appeared in his hand]
Could be trying to force a result will only push it further. Or something like that. Magic isn't something I get at all.
[ khun doesn't get magic either, and it's providing similar to shinsu where he's not a natural at it frustratingly enough. his fingers lace through his hair to free the bandana he has layered in it, tying his hair up into a quick ponytail in fast, deft movements. ]
[That response...Kiryu would say Cid has a lot of imagination, but...]
Why can't I rule out that the wizards that got lost might be in the prehistory.
[He just mutters that, shaking his head. Kiryu is pretty sure if he goes to the prehistory he'll end up having to punch a dinosaur. He has a track record of having to fight ferocious animals]
[His imagination is a whole clusterfuck but it's useful..... maybe...... sometimes. Is it useful on this occasion?? Well.
Cid examines the buttons and panels some more, but you really can't glean much just from what's on there. It's like playing a whole location gacha at this point; Cid has in fact probably punched a dinosaur before, since we're talking about canons with dinosaurs. ☆ Still, he's not entirely sure what to expect and that's part of the fun.
He glances back at Kiryu still wall-leaning with all the understated gusto in the world. This guy is great. They should make him an elevator bouncer.]
Well, from the sounds of it, they lost a lot of wizards and stuff. Unless they didn't want to be found, they're probably super lost. So I think looking in unconventional places is the way to go!
[It's definitely not just because he wants to see weird places. The elevator dings again, welcoming them to the Cave of Time with a murmur that isn't entirely the hydraulics.]
[Kiryu steps out of the elevator. Looks like this is it -- he already has decided he's going to have to play bodyguard here. Nothing he hasn't done before! Although if this turns out more magical in nature than physical, he'll be less useful than normal]
Just a quick look and we go back. If two more wizards get lost we won't live that down.
[This world will have some serious egg in its face if it brought two new wizards only to see them prance into serious trouble less than a week after arrival]
Without going into much detail, it was...the most meaningful thing I have seen in years.
[It wasn't a random item, yup. In fact, he's looking for ways to guarantee it won't ever be destroyed. It's that significant -- although truthfully, if before obtaining it anyone had asked him what he thought his focus would be, he wouldn't have thought of that not even in a million years]
[ it's quiet, but still loud enough that Kiryu can hear. khun tosses the potted plant over his shoulder where it shatters with a somewhat satisfying sound. ]
I have things I value, but I wouldn't call them meaningful.
Then how about trying to make something new from scratch? Since you got nothing then make it yourself.
[It's advice he has given around because, as he sees it, making your own focus perhaps can work. Create something with your own two hands, pouring your effort and passion into it, and see if it works!]
Out of this junk? [ sorry he's just in a Mood and also his standards. he does at least continue his sifting through the pile, so it seems he's taking kiryu's advice despite his words.
faintly, a low hum starts to eminate from somewhere in the mess. ]
khun's already moving to locate whatever's making that noise in the pile. he unearths a box with a latch that's glowing faintly. ]
I looked at this already...! [ undoing the latch reveals a chess board and pieces that have been shuffled out of their holdings due to khun's rough handling. one piece in particular seems to be the source of the sound and light: the white queen. ]
[Cid obligingly steps out after him, not even bothering to try and keep up -- hey, if the bruiser decides he wants to be the tank, who is he to stop him?? This really does feel like stepping into a dungeon: the change in the air, the soft buzz of some kind of magic, and the far-off mutter of maybe-voices that makes him perk up his ears.
There's definitely something here. Maybe more than one something. Maybe several someones.
Once he ascertains that much, he cheerfully makes a show of hiding behind Kiryu.]
A quick look for sure! I just want to get the lay of the land, and then maybe come back later once we're a bit more wizard-y.
[Even if this were the right place, there's a right time and opportunity. Quite aside from needing more time to work on his magic, he needs a plan to do things in a more dramatic fashion. That's the most important part.]
