Of course I am. [ He gives him an expectant look. ] Go on.

So... After we got grabbed, we got dropped in the middle of the North by one of the towns. There were two voices that called out to us, talking about how the barrier around the City of Ice had fallen, and if we were summoned that meant they weren't able to do anything about it. So that meant it fell to us to fix it.

...Problem is, the reason for that was a giant chimera. We had just enough time to get our wards up against the cold before it came flying at us for a fight.

A chimera?

[ Hopefully it wasn't a chimera ant... ]

I assume you were able to defeat it.

Eventually. It was a really rough fight - it was just kind of attacking us at random, I think?

And then a pair of witches along and blasted us saying they were going to kill the chimera and us so they could eat our mage stones.

[Three guesses how that went over with the rest of the Northies and the first two don't count.]

And so those mana stones that Ithaqua had with him were the witches, I presume?

[ The Norths are ruthless enough that they wouldn't have taken a threat like that so easily. ]

Them and the chimera. All three became mana stones once they were dead.

...Not that it was easy killing them all. Each part of the chimera was attacking independently, along with both the witches... There were some really close calls.

[Don't ask him how many of those close calls were him, specifically, it's fine,,]

But anyway, once we killed all three of them, we found the moonstone was inside the chimera. So from there we just had to purify it and then we were done.

You make it sound simple.

[ But hold on, let him latch onto the one thing you don't want him to— ]

Some close calls, though? More than just Solomon?

Solomon probably had some of the worst of it. He got frozen to the chimera's back when one of the witches came along and blasted him off of it with a beam of energy.

Frozen to it...? What do you mean by that?

[dyingtohealyou]

Yeah, it turns out if you climb up on the chimera, you might get frozen to it? At least, I think that's what happened.

[There was. A Lot going on.]

...You know, it sounds as if there was a lot of chaos.

[ Because... what. ]

You would be right. We couldn't really spare any time to heal or help each other, either.

[revengier]

As Northern wizards, healing really isn't your specialty. I can see it being something you'd need to dedicate real time to... which can be hard in battle.

Exactly. There wasn't enough time between attacks, plus the amount of healing it would've actually done wasn't really enough to make it worth it.

We had to focus on taking them down before they could do the same to us.

[DPS is damage mitigation if your enemy's too dead to damage you-]

A viable strategy. I can't say I haven't done something similar in the past.

[ He sighs. ]

Did you gain any information related to the previous wizards?

It wasn't really an information-gathering situation so much as a "battle to the death" one. The chimera couldn't talk, and the witches probably had no idea what was going on, either.

So you didn't really learn anything?

[ Kind of disappointing, but that's how it shakes out sometimes. ]

What stake did the witches have in all of this?

Oh, they just wanted all our mana stones.

[Y'know. Northie things.]

[revengier]

Of course.

[ He sighs. ]

And the five of you ended up with theirs instead. Who dealt the killing blow?

Malice got one of them, the other... Ithaqua, I'm assuming? He and Solomon used their partner spell and disappeared for a while, but by the time they were back she was dead.

We all hit the chimera at pretty much the same time, so it's hard to say who got that thing.

...So the partner spells really are that impressive.

[ Hmmm. ]

We should use ours.

If only they'd dragged you along, too... I bet we could've ended the fight even faster that way.

[Also lol. lmao. imagine biding through all the hits he took.]

Maybe we should try practicing it sometime?

I think we should. There may come a time where we do end up fighting together again.

[ And if he can help tank hits for Ahito? Well, he'll gladly do it. ]

We could always use the monsters of the North for practice.

...After I have some time to recover my magic, anyway. I'm spent, and so's my amulet.
