[ Nice. He makes the toast and takes a sip. It's enough, for now. It's enough to feel at least a little happy that he's found another person he's fond of, here. It makes being here (existing) a lot less lonely and terrible. ]
Yeah. Feel free to come and visit anytime, 'kay? I know things can get pretty intense here, but I'd rather not leave a friend to handle it alone if I can help it.
[ He murmurs his thanks, mind going over the sensations he just felt. How much of this magic is just Day simplified - gentle but like a word on the tip of one's tongue, never quite remembered, but familiar. ]
[ Day had...actually, no, maybe he'd been too optimistic that it'd take more than a month before something wild happened here. Damn.
(Idly, he also realises—after all is said and done, and whatever comes next, Yamato would probably forget him. But that would be the least surprising outcome, and it is a blessing that Yamato seems to be someone normal. A mundane—a peaceful—life is a rarity. It's fine to just enjoy this while it lasts.) ]
Thanks. [ The dim realization that the past two years have involved a lot of handling things (or keeping plates spinning, so to speak) by himself, at his sole discretion, not that it could be helped. Day swirls the glass of wine in thought. ] ...I have an idea, but also a bunch of pain points I'm gonna have to figure out how to handle if I wanna try it.
[ A peaceful life is a rarity, indeed, and while he'd call the events here anything but that, he knows it's a lot more serene for others, to be here. To have a place to call...home? Or at least, to find a place of camaraderie.
He needs to remind himself not to take things for granted. Chances that he won't see these people again after this is over are not completely out of the question. The thought, as it had a few days ago, makes him feel a little sad...but anything can happen between now and when things end. He'll try not to think about it too much in the meantime. ]
See, I'm not gonna protect him from everything—[ That's kind of impossible here, he thinks. He won't say he's well-versed in magic but sometimes he thinks he can sense what limitations there are, especially because he's not an experienced wizard. ]—but I want it to protect him from something that woulda been lethal, so that the situation you just told me 'bout won't repeat, hopefully. [ Where recovering from bodily trauma that extreme seems to drain Mika and triggers the hunger frenzy. ] And it protectin' him from stuff that'd kill him would...well, also be good, obviously.
[ "Obviously" like he isn't kind of aware that Mika is not fond of his undead existence, but. You know. ]
The more people think I'm laidback, the better. [ It's a good thing to seem like, he thinks, even if he can't actually be it all the time.
...The hand on Ginger's neck carefully sweeps up to tentatively touch Ginger's cheek. ] Gotta say though, you're pretty red for a guy who just gave his blood.
Guess I could appeal to logic, [ that seemed to work during their first meeting ] but it feels a little cold for my likin' considerin' how I'm gonna have to make this charm work.
[ He squints a little into the wine in his glass. ] ...And I guess it seems kinda awkward when I wasn't even there when that shit went down.
[ For what it's worth, Yamato isn't wrong. His gaze moves up a little because he's not about to disagree with Yamato, but he also can't help wondering if it really is a good thing for Mika. In a way, it's about trying to keep a greater group of people safe(-ish. his confidence in keeping them safe is not exactly high right now) and protecting Ginger's feelings as much as it is about protecting Mika. If not more so, depending on how charitably one wants to view this.
...Right, if the results are the same, maybe it doesn't matter too much. ]
To be fair, I... [ ...How does he put this in a way that isn't too out of pocket... ] ...my division's got a certain rep, and it ain't entirely unearned. [ Ginger is like, literally the only person he'd so casually just mention the Division of Serenity to since he'd get the idea. ] So I noticed.
[ Perhaps it isn't an entirely charitable act, but it's still going to serve a good, greater purpose, he thinks. Yamato also has the tendency to value some people highly -- his tendency to try to lift others up before himself is coming in hot here. (They've both got their secrets, it seems.)
He takes a sip of his wine. ]
I guess it was too much to ask for some peace until we figure things out. Heh.
