It's where I started originally, but I find I'm having to look a little broader due to how these are written. This is from the Sage's perspective, after all - not a wizard's.

Besides that, though, it works better for me if I share my own understandings. More people working faster towards our goal means a higher chance of success.

Don't box yourself in on your options unless you absolutely need to.

How would a translation spell even work? It'd take a thorough understanding of all the different languages involved wouldn't it?

In normal circumstances when the magic is reliant on the user? Yes, it would.

However, since this magic seems to channel from the spirits rather than us, it could very well work through pure intention. It's just a matter of finding the correct intent, and approaching it with confidence.

Something like being able to scan the intention off of text for understanding? ...Though, that's pretty vague, too.

As a concept, yes. But remember that this magic is tied to emotions, convictions, and desire. Not to logic.

Not completely. It just means learning the logic behind your emotions.

Translation may have to start with a single letter, number or character. If that's too narrow, expand it. If it's not enough, then think conceptually.

How is that supposed to catch things that don't have an easy one to one translation? I'm sure your language has sayings we don't.

That's definitely trickier... mmn. Maybe it might have a better chance if we assume the the spirits here have any connection to the emotions and intentions of the previous Sages.

For that particular instance, yes, I think it's a good application. You were worried about it being too vague, but I think taking too much to specifics might be just as bad.
