If you don't believe you can do it, your magic isn't going to help. You need to commit to what you want.

Are you concerned that studying magic will give you more reasons to be unimpressed with it?

Well, I assumed that much, or you wouldn't go and call it more trouble than it's worth.

Do you plan to not cooperate with the situation, then?

I'll cooperate if it means getting back sooner, but it's hard to cooperate in the first place when our instructions are so vague.

It's really frustrating, sure. But I think you're heading in the right direction. See what we have to build a framework and then just expand from there, right?

What framework? The sage himself doesn't even seem to know what we should be doing.

Does that matter?

Perhaps he's told us all he really knows at this point. It doesn't change our situation.

Magic is far safer and more stable if you know the history behind its usage. Even knowing the political climate and how it's changed can help us settle our feelings. A calm and confident wizard is what the spirits want, or so our little sparrow says.

It matters if we want to achieve the overall goal.

I have confidence in my ability to learn and cast. It's the people who are supposed to be leading us who I've got no faith in.

Have you told them as much?

They don't seem to want us to flounder. But they won't know of your troubles if you don't talk about them.

I doubt they're interested.

Does it matter whether they're interested?

Their reaction to correct failures can say just as much as their first impressions. Show them your expectations, or you'll find that you'll always be disappointed no matter what they decide to do.

No thanks. I'm not interested in dealing with them any more than necessary to begin with.

You're that certain that they'll lead us into failure when we've only been here a week?

If they don't shape up, it's possible. Or, maybe someone else will convince them to actually do their jobs properly.

So long as you don't make things difficult for the rest, then I suppose you can stick to your opinions as much as you'd like. But cynicism won't lead to much progress.
