Where I'm from, it causes a lot more trouble than it's worth. And this place doesn't seem to have any good resources for me to see just what the differences are.
Trouble, huh. I hope you're not saying that lightly.
The lack of foundational text is a pain, you're right. There has to be some sort of reason for it. Prejudice, perhaps, or a punishment if it's shared outside its circles.
Nope. Usually it depends partially on how you go about casting... A spell cast with a magic circle's going to come out differently than a spell applied with a potion.
Without knowing more about the spirits and their expectations, we'll have to be reliant on trial and error. Just because the rules aren't written in blood somewhere doesn't mean it has to stay a mystery.
I have. The collection is massive. Unless I can come up with another spell to read books just by touching the cover, there's no possible way to get through them in just a single visit.
[Away they go! At the very least, if his body language is anything to go by as they walk, Solomon's fine with treating Ahiro like a possible peer rather than a child. Mostly.]
Are you fluent in more than one language? The material is pretty varied.
Mmm... there's a lot of them in Japanese. Quite a few in romantic languages, some in semetic... Sanskrit, Chinese, Russian... and those are just the ones I skimmed.

[He says, as if this guy ought to trust him at his word despite clearly not returning the favor.]
Anyway, based on what they've said so far, I'm wondering if there's even a system to it. Or at least, a system in the way my world's works.

[It's cool, buddy, he's used to not being trusted.]
All magic has a structure of some sort, even if it seems disordered. I'll take it you're not used to it being conjured from feelings.

[He sounds... SO thrilled.]

Are you aware of what can be found in the library, Ahito? It really is quite large.

You have to look forward to something to keep yourself moving forward, even if it's just getting some answers. Wouldn't you agree?
I can walk you over if you're that discouraged.

He doesn't look thrilled, but:]
Fine. A second pair of eyes is better than one.
[Or whatever his eyesight counts as, being practically half blind and all.
To the library!]

Only my country's. What languages are used for the books?

[Uhhhh.]
...I've never heard of any of those languages.

Maybe we'll have to come up with a translation spell sooner rather than later.
